![]() He knows he can't trust her, because he is forcing her compliance and he feels that his need for a place to rest and formulate a plan of action is more important than acting in a civilized manner. He makes her lay down next to him because at this point he has no idea who he can trust and he needs to sleep. He uses the psychology involved with concept of being held at gunpoint to keep her compliant. Only then does he realize that he had to randomize his actions. He picks Faye Dunaway at random, because he first follows a predictable pattern of going to his own home, and going to see the one person who had been sick that day (and not come into work) only to stumble onto suspicious people in both locations. He wasn't trained as a field agent with the CIA, but he did have previous military experience. The location where he worked was dedicated to examining every book possible, to look for plots and stories that were similar to existing or planned CIA operations. ![]() Has anyone else seen it? What do you think? It just strikes me as a strange option to add in the film. ![]() It strikes me more as Stockholm syndrome than an actual romantic relationship. But then he kidnaps this woman and then a "love" plot. You have plenty of sympathy for the guy in the beginning, he seems friendly, he gets along with all of his coworkers, and then they are all murdered and you feel for the guy. It is a very puzzling choice to have this in the movie at all, it makes Reford's character extremely unlikeable. Coming back later, he unties her and .love with him? They have sex and she helps him out a bit more with investigating only for him to send her off a few scenes later. Later that day, he goes out to investigate but doesn't trust leaving her alone in fear she will go to the cops, so he ties her up and gags her and heads out. Back at her house, he forces her to lay in bed with her and sleep next to him so he can rest, threatening to kill her if she even tries to get out of bed. ![]() Anyway, while trying to hide, he encounters Dunaway's character and holds her at gunpoint and demands he takes her back to her house to help hide him. ![]() He's not a field agent and has no training but he reads a lot so he can handle himself in a fight. Redford's character works for the CIA as some bookkeeper looking for codes and such, and a hit was put on his building and all of his coworkers were gunned down expect for him and now he is on the run from his own government. I don't want to say it was bad, it certainly had some high tension moments and awesome cinematography but I'm quite confused by a few choices that made it into the film, especially around Faye Dunaway's character. Did a little reading into it before watching it and I was excited about the premise, Robert Redford, Max von Sydow, Faye Dunaway in a political thriller, sign me up. (not what this post is about but I would suggest doing it! Opens you to a lot of new films)Īnyway, one of my friends suggested this film and I had never even heard of it so I was excited to try something new.
